Welcome to Petersfield Community Choir

We meet on Wednesday evening during term-time from 19.30 to 21.00. We are an open access choir and our main aim is to enjoy singing together in harmony. There is no audition, and no need to read music. If you are interested in joining, please email membership@petersfieldcommunitychoir.co.uk

We learn songs by ‘call and repeat’ – the choir leader sings a line and we repeat it back to her, gradually building up to the whole song. Most songs are in three or four part harmony.

At the heart of this choir is a simple belief: singing is for everyone and everyone should have the opportunity to sing. The choir brings friendship, harmony and the simple pleasure of unaccompanied singing.  Our aim is to sound the best that we can, whilst learning and improving, but more than anything, remembering that we sing in a choir to enjoy ourselves, to make connections, have fun and to create something beautiful.

Our choir leader, Ysanne Bonner, has a wealth of experience and makes each rehearsal fun, bringing warmth, energy and a passion for music. Through laughter, shared learning, and song, we create music that connects us and spreads joy and happiness. No voice is too small when it’s part of a choir.

Ysanne leads two other community choirs: The Spotlight Singers in Andover and The Woolmer Forest Community Choir in Bordon. She began singing with the Petersfield Community Choir when it was established almost 18 years ago by Sarah Morgan and took over the leadership of the Bordon and Andover choirs in 2013.

We perform two concerts each year, in the summer and at Christmas, often combining with other local music groups. Funds raised at these events go to local charities nominated by choir members (see the Reports section). Although most of us enjoy performing we appreciate that some people prefer not to – you are welcome to just come to rehearsals and enjoy the singing!

Here is a short sound file which features some of the songs performed at a concert held at the Festival Hall in Petersfield:

We like to participate in community events where possible – if you would like us to sing at a local event, please get in touch.
