We meet at The Salvation Army Hall on Swan Street, Petersfield, on Wednesday evenings 7.45pm to 9.15pm during term-time. We are an open access choir, there are no auditions and no need to read music. Our main aim is to enjoy singing together in harmony. The cost is £5 per session, payable on the night - or you can pay by the term, at a slightly reduced rate. If you are interested in joining the choir please email [email protected] ; numbers are close to the capacity of the hall, and we are monitoring to avoid overcrowding.
We learn songs by the 'call and repeat' method, where our choir leader sings a line and we repeat it back to her, gradually building up to the whole verse, the chorus, and finally the entire song. Most songs are in three or four part harmony. We are lucky to have Carolyn Robson as our Musical Director, a professional singer and musician with a wealth of teaching and performing experience. She also runs choirs in Winchester and Alton.
We usually perform two concerts each year, at Christmas and in the summer, often combining with other local music groups. Funds raised at these events go to local charities nominated by choir members (see the Reports section). Although most of us enjoy performing we appreciate that some people prefer not to - you are welcome to just come to rehearsals and enjoy the singing!
We like to participate in community events where possible - if you would like us to sing at a local event, please get in touch [email protected]
We had a most enjoyble evening at the PTC Edwardian Concert on 2nd November.
We have had some very good feedback on our performance, including:
"...I could follow the words so easily, and the singers held their notes firmly and melodiously....Your contribution was first class."
The Christmas Concert is on Wednesday 12th December, at St Peter's Church.
We will be supporting the East Hampshire branch of MIND.
Guests Carolyn Robson and Moira Craig
